By Silvia G.
The Great Depression began on 1929 with the Stock Market crash and continued through the 1930s. The unemployment rate was close to twenty-five percent and never fell below 14 percent by 1941. Greater than 50 percent of the people in the US were considered poor. Many people suffered during the Great Depression in more than one way. Many people lost their jobs, businesses, farms, homes, and belongings, and even their families. Many husbands abandoned their wives and families, many children went malnourished, and illness increased. After the Great Depression there were many changes in policies and politics, new programs were put in place to help and avoid another depression. Also woman figure changed from housewives to working woman. The Great Depression finally disappeared due to the manufacturing and employment that was brought on by World War II.
